Two Gibson F-5 Fern Mandolins - 1924 Loar and 1932

Inventory number MF8127 - Gibson F-5 with fern peghead inlay signed by Lloyd Loar
on September 18, 1924. The Gibson F-5 mandolins that are signed and dated by the
man who designed them, Lloyd Loar, are acknowledged by most American players as
the epitome of mandolin design. This mandolin exemplifies the F-5's ultimate combination
of tone, power and aesthetics, particularly its highly figured back. It is fitted
with a Virzi Tone Producer (as are all fern peghead Loars except
for the one known fern made in 1923). As would be expected of an instrument
that begs to be played, it has been refretted (by Gruhn Guitars). We also repaired
two small top cracks (extremely inconspicuous) and French polished the finish
on the back of the peghead. This instrument has exceptionally fine sound and playability.
With original rectangular hard case, this instrument is offered at the reduced
price of $145,000. For further appreciation...
